# Lost or Missing Projects

> Understand why projects may be missing and how to prevent losing them in the future.

  Logging out of Captions permanently deletes all of your locally stored projects and caption templates on that device. This applies to iOS, Android, and Desktop/Web.

## Why Projects Go Missing

Projects in Captions are stored locally on the device where they were created. They are not synced to the cloud or between devices. This means:

* **Logging out** permanently deletes all projects and caption templates on that device
* **Projects created on one device** will not appear on another device, even when using the same account
* **Clearing your browser cache** on Desktop/Web permanently deletes projects
* **Switching browsers or using incognito mode** on Desktop/Web means projects won't be visible

## Can I Recover a Deleted Project?

Unfortunately, deleted projects cannot be recovered.

## How to Avoid Losing Projects

Always [export](/help/docs/settings/export) finished videos before:

* Logging out of the app
* Switching to a different device
* Clearing your browser cache (Desktop/Web)
