It has a built-in teleprompter so you can read your script while recording without looking away from the lens. Combined with AI Eye Contact, you can look directly at your audience even if you're reading text. This guide walks you through recording great footage from scratch inside the app. ## Step 1: Prepare your script Before you hit record, have your script ready. You have two options: Open the Captions camera, tap **Teleprompter**, and paste your script in the text field. Keep it conversational. Scripts that are too formal tend to sound stiff on camera. Not sure what to say? Tap **Script** on the Captions home screen, enter a topic or prompt, and let the AI generate a script for you. Edit it until it sounds like you, then paste it into the teleprompter. → [Script Generator](/help/docs/project/script) ## Step 2: Set up the camera Tap **Camera** from the Captions home screen to open the camera view. Before recording, configure your setup: * **Flip:** Tap to switch between front and back camera. Most talking-head videos use the front camera. * **Quality:** Tap to choose HD or 4K, and 30fps or 60fps. For social video, 1080p / 30fps is the standard. * **Flash:** Turn on if you need extra light. Natural light from a window in front of you is usually better. * **Countdown timer:** Set a 3 or 5 second countdown so you have time to settle before recording starts. ## Step 3: Configure the teleprompter Tap **Teleprompter** to open the settings: * **Scroll mode:** Choose between **Continuous scroll** (text flows like a news ticker) or **Scene by scene** (text advances line by line when you tap) * **Text position:** Keep the teleprompter text near the top of the screen so your eyes stay close to the camera lens * **Text size:** Make it large enough to read comfortably without squinting The closer your eyes are to the camera lens while reading, the more natural the eye contact will look. Position the teleprompter text near the top edge of the screen, right next to where the camera sits. ## Step 4: Record Tap the record button to start. The teleprompter will scroll automatically or advance on tap, depending on your setting. **Tips for a clean take:** * Stand or sit about arm's length from your phone * Make sure your face is well-lit (soft light in front of you, not behind) * Use headphones or a lapel mic if you're in a noisy environment * Speak slightly slower than feels natural. It reads better on camera Tap **Undo** to re-record your last segment without starting over. ## Step 5: Add AI Eye Contact (optional but recommended) If you were reading from the teleprompter, your eyes probably drifted slightly up or to the side. AI Eye Contact corrects this by shifting your gaze to look directly into the lens. After recording, select **Eye Contact** in the editor. Add captions using the **Generate captions** flow 2. Style them to match your brand 3.
