# Avatars

> Create an AI twin or describe an avatar, then use it in a talking video.

Avatars are people Captions can put on camera. Browse them in the Avatar Library, then use one in an Avatar project or with **Add avatar** on an Edit.

## Browse the library

Open **Avatars** in the sidebar. Filter with **Saved**, **Custom**, or **Default**. Each card shows how many looks that avatar has. Bookmark a look to keep it in Saved.

## Create an avatar

Select **Create avatar**. You get two paths.

### Create an AI twin

**Create an AI twin** makes an avatar that looks like you. The card shows a short recording, about 12 seconds, with a record button. Record when you are ready. Captions uses that take to build the twin.

### Describe a new avatar

**Describe a new avatar** builds a custom avatar from a prompt.

1. Describe appearance and background. **Generate a random prompt** fills the field if you want a starting point.
2. Set the aspect ratio. The control in the dialog includes 16:9.
3. Open **History** to revisit an earlier description.
4. Select **Generate**.

## Generate a talking video

On Home, set the project type to **Avatar** ("Generate a talking video"). Write what the avatar should say, choose the avatar, and select **Create my video**.

On an Edit, **Add avatar** attaches an avatar to footage you already imported.
