# Color Scopes

> Read waveform, parade, vectorscope, and histogram while you judge exposure and color.

**Color** on the tool rail opens scopes. These meters describe the frame. They do not grade the picture by themselves.

| Scope | What it shows |
| - | - |
| Waveform | Brightness. Vertical is 0–100%. Horizontal follows the image from left to right. |
| RGB parade | Red, green, and blue levels side by side. |
| Vectorscope | Hue and saturation. |
| Histogram | How many pixels sit at each brightness. |

Waveform is selected when you open the tool. The status line reads: "Pause playback and finish cropping to refresh scopes." Pause, finish a crop, then read the scope again.

To change the image, use an effect on a layer or an [effect layer](https://captions.ai/help/web/timeline/effect-layer.md), then check the scopes again.
