# Shapes

> Add a rectangle, ellipse, star, or line to the timeline.

**Shape** on the tool rail opens a menu with four tools:

* Rectangle
* Ellipse
* Star
* Line

Choose one, then draw on the preview. The shape becomes a layer on the timeline.

Select the layer to change fill, stroke, position, scale, rotation, opacity, blend mode, and any mask. Effects and animations on a shape use the same layer settings as other visual layers.
