Creating and sharing original content is the go-to approach for keeping followers engaged, but did you know you can also repost videos from others?

Reposting on TikTok lets you share relevant videos from other creators with your own followers. Much like a retweet on Twitter (now X), TikTok's repost feature helps content spread quickly across the platform. It's also a great way to keep your feed active without producing something from scratch, making it a handy technique for part-time creators.

Read on to learn how to repost on TikTok, how to undo a repost, and why reshares keep your feed fresh.

What Are Reposts on TikTok?

On TikTok, reposting is a feature that lets you share someone's video with your audience. The process is similar to resharing content on other social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X.

Reposting a TikTok video helps it appear on your followers' For You Page (FYP) so they can enjoy the content you found interesting. When resharing, you give the original creator full credit for the video. The repost doesn't appear directly on your profile, leaving your account’s aesthetic unchanged while you share what speaks to you — and what you think your audience might connect with.

Why You Should Repost on TikTok

Reposts benefit you and your followers by providing opportunities to interact while keeping up with trends. Here are a few reasons why you should repost TikTok videos.

Support Other Creators

When you repost a video, you're helping your fellow creator by spotlighting their content. Reposting shares their message with a broader audience while contributing to a collaborative community on the platform. When you show appreciation for other creators, they might return the favor by reposting your videos or working with you in the future.

Strengthen Your Brand Voice

Reposting content that aligns with your brand's values is a clever way to reinforce your TikTok identity. Sharing videos that appeal to your audience or reflect your interests shapes how people perceive you. When you regularly highlight similar content, you maintain a consistent brand image — even when you're not producing original videos.

Vary Your Content

If you want to branch out, you can repost videos from different creators and niches to add variety to your TikTok feed. Mixing up your usual posts with fresh material can keep followers interested and coming back for more.

Discover New Ideas

Reposting content introduces your followers to new ideas and entertainment they might otherwise have missed. It's a great way to keep your feed relevant with the latest TikTok trends while participating in broader conversations across the platform.

Improve Engagement Without Creating New Content

When you reshare other people’s work, you can keep your feed active even when you don't have time to create new content. It's an easy way to maintain engagement and stay visible. Your followers have something fresh to view, and you don't have to spend hours filming and editing a new video.

How To Repost in the TikTok App

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you repost videos in the TikTok app:

  1. Identify a video you want to repost — Scroll through your FYP or explore trending hashtags to find videos that match your brand and interests. Ideally, they should also resonate with your audience — this is an opportunity to find something your followers will enjoy as much as you do.
2. Tap the share icon — Once you find a TikTok to repost, tap the share button near the bottom-right side of the screen. The icon looks like an arrow pointing right. Tapping it will bring up a menu with various sharing options.
  1. Repost the video — There are two ways to repost on TikTok, depending on the version of your app or region:
    • “Repost” button — If your app version includes a dedicated "Repost" button, you'll see it within the sharing menu under “Send to.” Tap “Repost” to share the video on your feed while keeping the original video intact.
    • “Share to” option — If there isn't a "Repost" button, select "Share to…" from the menu. This lets you share the video directly to TikTok and other social media platforms. You can also copy the video link, but consider removing the TikTok watermark before repurposing and sharing it to other platforms like Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts.

When you repost, TikTok allows you to pair a comment with the video. Use this space to add your own spin — whether it's a funny remark or a nod to your content. A reposted TikTok with a personal touch makes the share feel more authentic and engaging for your followers. For example, if you're posting another creator’s funny video, add a comment like, "This made my day — how relatable is this?" to spark a conversation with your audience.

Always credit the original creator. You can tag their username in the comments section or the added text. For instance, add a simple tag like "@username did an amazing job with this!" This shows that you respect them and appreciate their work, building positive relationships for future collabs.

How To Undo a Repost in the TikTok App

Sometimes, you might change your mind after reposting a video or accidentally tap the "Repost" button. Follow these steps to undo a repost:

  1. Find the reposted video — Open the TikTok app and look for the reposted video on your profile. You can find these under the "Repost" tab.
  2. Access the video options — After finding the reposted video, tap the share icon again. This will open the same menu you used to repost it.
  3. Tap "Remove Repost" — Find the "Remove Repost" option in the sharing menu (this button replaces the repost button after sharing). Tap this button, and TikTok will remove the video from your and your followers' feeds. It's a quick way to undo your action without deleting or impacting the original video.

Depending on your TikTok app version and location, you can turn the reposting feature off altogether. Go to "Settings and Privacy," tap "Privacy," and look for "Repost." You can toggle this to your preferences.

If you ever change your mind and want to repost the same video again, follow the same steps you used initially. TikTok lets you repost and undo reposts as often as you like, so feel free to experiment with different content or share again when the timing feels right.
