Voice effects are audio filters that modify your voice in TikTok videos, adding creative variations like pitch changes, echoes, or robotic sounds to enhance the overall audio experience.

Whether you're looking for something funny, mysterious, or bizarre, TikTok's voice effects offer an easy way to bring different personalities to your content. By varying your audio, you can capture any emotion — and your audience's attention — to make more engaging content.

What Are TikTok Voice Effects?

TikTok voice effects are built-in audio filters that let you change the sound of your voice. Some options are more subtle, while others completely transform your audio, adding an interesting layer of entertainment and personality to your video ideas.

TikTok offers many different voice effects, including:

  • Baritone — Deepens your voice into a low, rich, resonant tone. This effect is great for dramatic or serious content.
  • Cat — Gives your voice a feline-like sound by turning it into a cat's meow.
  • Chipmunk — Speeds up your voice to create a high-pitched chipmunk squeak.
  • Echo — Adds an echo, giving your voice a reverberating sound that feels dramatic, mysterious, or nostalgic.
  • Electronic — Lends a futuristic sound to your videos.
  • Giant — Deepens and broadens your voice to a rumbling giant-like tone, adding a larger-than-life presence.
  • Helium — Distorts your voice to be more high-pitched. This effect makes your voice sound comically exaggerated and is great for lighthearted, funny videos.
  • Low battery — Makes your voice glitch and stutter like your phone's running out of power.
  • Megaphone — Amplifies your voice to sound like you're shouting through a loudspeaker, capturing attention and adding energy to any scene.
  • Mic — Imitates a crisp microphone sound as if you're performing live on stage. It's a popular voice effect for singing and spoken word videos.
  • Robot — Makes your voice into a robotic or mechanical sound, perfect for sci-fi, tech, or quirky content.
  • Synth — Adds a retro, 80s-inspired synthesizer effect to your voice.
  • Trickster — Mimics a cartoon villain, giving your videos a mischievous and cunning vibe.

Adding voice effects to your TikTok videos is a quick way to create a specific mood or vibe. Follow these six steps to find and use TikTok's voice changer effects and make your videos more entertaining.

1. Open the TikTok App

Tap the plus (+) button at the bottom of your screen to start creating your video. This takes you to the video recording interface.

2. Record or Upload Your Video

Tap and hold the red recording button to capture your video, either in one go or in segments. If you're using any in-app visual effects before recording, make sure they don't come with built-in audio, or TikTok might not allow you to add voice effects.

You can also upload external clips from your device's camera roll, but check whether they have audio or they might clash with the effects.

Another option is to add text-to-speech if you don’t want to use your real voice.

3. Finish Recording

Once you're done recording, tap the check mark on the right to proceed. Click the "Voice effects" button (this might be labeled "Voice" depending on your location), which looks like a microphone icon. This will open the voice effects menu.

4. Choose and Preview Your Voice Effect

Scroll through TikTok's voice filters and choose one that's relevant to your video. Try the "Echo" or "Baritone" effects to add mystery or suspense to your content. If it's a humorous video, "Chipmunk" or "Helium" might work better.

Click on any effect to preview how it sounds before confirming changes to your video.

5. Save Your Voice Effect

Once you've picked the right voice effect for your TikTok, tap "Save" to lock it in. Then, you can add other elements like captions, stickers, and filters to further customize your content.

6. Review and Post Your Video

Double-check your video and make sure everything's in order. When you're happy with the final result, tap "Next" and start filling out the video description, trending hashtags, and mentions. Then, hit the "Post" button to publish.

FAQs

Why Doesn’t My TikTok Have Voice Effects?

There could be a few issues preventing you from accessing voice effects. First, make sure your TikTok app is updated, as some features might not be available on outdated versions. Also, certain options are region-specific, so you may only have access to limited voice effects depending on your location. Lastly, the app restricts voice effects when you upload videos with pre-recorded audio or if you record in-app and use visual filters with sound effects.

What Voice Effect Is Everyone Using on TikTok?

One of TikTok's most popular voice effects is the "Trickster" effect. Known for its playful, cartoon-like sound, it adds a mischievous tone and is a favorite for humorous content. Other trending effects include "Chipmunk" for its high-pitched vibe and "Echo" for its nostalgic ambiance.

Can I perform a Duet Using Voice Effects on TikTok?

Yes — voice effects are great for adding a new twist to TikTok duets and experimenting with video styles. Follow the same steps you would for a regular video. After recording your side of the duet, choose the "Voice effects" option and apply the one you want. For example, you can harmonize with an original music cover or add a funny twist with the "Chipmunk" or "Helium" effects.
