AI Edit is the fastest way to turn raw footage into a polished video. You import a clip, pick a style, and Captions handles the rest: transcription, captions, B-roll, music, sound effects, and motion graphics all done automatically. This guide walks you through the full workflow from import to export.

The workflow

1

Record or import your footage

For best results, record directly in Captions using the Camera & Teleprompter. The footage will be clean, vertical, and ready to edit immediately. If you’re importing existing footage: keep it under 2 minutes, make sure it’s a single speaker, and don’t import a clip you’ve already partially edited elsewhere.
2

Select AI Edit

After importing, tap AI Edit from the editor toolbar. You’ll be prompted to choose a style and confirm the language.
3

Choose a style

Browse the style library. Styles control the look of captions, B-roll, motion graphics, and music.
  • Premium styles (Analog, Blueprint, Clarity, Core, Film, etc.): polished, opinionated looks good for brand content
  • Basic styles: 95+ options ranging from minimal to expressive
Tap any style to preview it before committing.
Not sure which style to pick? See the Choosing the Right AI Edit Style guide for a breakdown by content type.
4

Set your language

Select the language spoken in your video. This determines caption accuracy. AI Edit supports all major languages.
5

Let AI Edit run

Tap Generate. The AI will edit your video, usually in under a minute. You’ll see the finished result in the timeline with captions, B-roll overlays, music, and effects applied.
6

Review and customize

Go through the edit and adjust anything that doesn’t look right:
  • To change a caption: Tap any word and edit it directly
  • To swap B-roll: Tap a media overlay in the timeline, then tap Replace
  • To change a shot’s style: Tap the shot → tap AI Edit → choose a new style
  • To add custom branding: Tap Custom color to apply your brand color throughout
Enable Keep existing images when re-running AI Edit on a shot to preserve B-roll you’ve already placed.
7

Export

Tap Export, choose your resolution (1080p for most platforms), and save. Your finished video is ready to post.

Tips for better results

  • One speaker, clean audio: AI Edit works best with a single person talking. Background music, multiple speakers, or lots of ambient noise can affect the output.
  • Vertical is best: AI Edit is optimized for 9:16. You can use other ratios, but motion graphics and B-roll placement are designed for vertical.
  • Short clips perform better: 60–90 second clips tend to produce tighter edits than clips right at the 2-minute limit.
  • Re-run on individual shots: If one shot didn’t come out how you wanted, tap it in the timeline and re-run AI Edit on just that segment instead of regenerating the whole video.
